Newsletter-October 2011

Hello Lactating Girl Family,

It’s been a busy and happy month for us. Of course, school is in full swing at the moment, which makes our days pretty full within themselves. We’ve taken more than a few days (where Mama doesn’t have class) off from preschool to hang out at home though. I need to remember to keep myself motivated for the last month of the semester. I’m just so excited to be home with the two of you next semester (and beyond), so it’s hard to keep myself in the school-mindset.

Peanut, I am amazed at how you are developing. Your memory is astounding! When I ask if you want to go to the library, you tell me that you do want to go to the one with the blocks, but not the one with the bear. Obviously, you’re not too hot on bears. This particular library has a big bear that’s sitting in a rocking chair right by the front door. It’s the main library so we’ve gone there a couple of times to get a wider selection or to pick up a book we didn’t want to wait to be transferred to our library. Even with those couple of times of being there, you remember that you don’t want to go back because of the bear.

You’re also speaking in full sentences all of the time now. Honestly, you have been for a while, but I guess I just forgot to mention it in the newsletters. Just in the time I’ve typed this, you’ve said “I see my dog down there. Hi!” and “You want some of my cookie?” Of course, you don’t always have perfect grammar, but it’s still amazing how well your language is developing.

Twig, you are just growing right along! You’ll be born in 10 weeks give-or-take and you have a strong kick! You’re already taking my breath away when you get my ribs just right. The midwife says you’re posterior, just like big sis, which isn’t a big deal at this point, but I will do everything in my power to make you flip around.

You’re incredibly active now. Sometimes so much so that I can’t sleep. As I typed the last sentence, you kicked me twice. It seems like me laying on my side is a good enough reason for you to kick me simultaneously on both sides. It’s pretty amusing. You must be doing the splits or something.

Peanut is pretty excited about you coming. We talk about all of the things that are going to happen before you come (e.g. Thanksgiving, school ending) much like we do a list of errands to run. She always feels my belly and tells me she feels you moving, but I don’t think she actually does most of the time. It’s still cute though. She also loves whispering secrets to you.

Here’s a photo of the 3 4 of us dressed up for Halloween. My blog readers will have already seen it, but I still want to post it here because it’s kind of like our first family photo of all of us.

Love you both,

Mama

Newsletter–September 2011

Hi Peanut and Twig,

This month has been a lot of repetition. Monday through Friday Peanut goes to preschool for a few hours while Mama goes to class. You’re loving your preschool class. So much so that we might keep you in it spring semester when Mama isn’t in school. It could be nice to get some time to just Mama and Twig. Maybe go grocery shopping with just an infant. *gasp* Depends on money and what you think about going back.

Peanut is in the green shirt and Susan is in the pink shirt.

Tuesdays Daddy plays basketball and for the last couple of weeks that’s meant Mama and Peanut (and obviously Twig tagging along in Mama’s belly) go to the duck park with Peanut’s friend Susan. Susan is about a year younger than you, but you do really well with her. Occasionally you don’t understand that Susan doesn’t want to do something and you try to physically manipulate her so that she does it (like when you wanted to pretend there was a store under the playground and she wouldn’t go to the right side of the window), but once we explain to you that it’s not nice to pull our friends, you tell her sorry and don’t do it anymore.

Wednesdays Peanut goes to Mema and Pop Pop’s while Mama and Daddy go to their birthing class. Next month you’ll be going to Oma and Opa’s because of Mema’s work schedule. You can tell they’re all so excited that you’re going to come over because they don’t get to see you while Mama is in class anymore. You also get super excited to see them. Last weekend rather than spending time with Mama like she wanted, you had to go spend the night at Oma and Opa’s. It’s okay though, Mama is just happy that you have grandparents who love you.

Then Thursdays you have dance class with Mama. You love your dance class. You’ll show off your tondu and plie to anyone who will watch. It’s also great to get in some Mama and Peanut time without any distraction from housework or homework or anything like that.

We mostly just spend Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays at home unless we have something special planned. Friends often come over on Fridays and play board games (mostly after Peanut is asleep, but she’s still happy to see them before bed). Sundays we go and see your grandparents and eat yummy food.

Twig is still chugging along gaining yummy baby fat. You’re now the size of rutabaga, which is apparently around 13.5 inches. That’s crazy considering that Peanut was 19 inches when she was born. You’re still kicking like crazy and find it particularly amusing to kick me in the bladder and make me really need to go pee, kicking me in the stomach right when I’ve eaten to make me feel sick, and kicking me in the ribs. Yeah, only 25 weeks and already being kicked in the ribs. Short torso for the lose.

Peanut and Daddy have both felt you kick multiple times now. You even get the hiccups! Peanut goes back and forth a lot on whether she thinks you’ll be a brother or sister, but lately she’s been leaning towards brother it seems. Guess only time will tell.

Love you both,

Mama

Newsletter — 13 and 14 Months

Hello Little Miss,

I realize that I totally skipped out on your newsletter last month and I apologize, but to be honest I just forgot. I was in the middle of my last semester for my Associates degrees and we were trying to find a house and really, Mama is just a forgetful person. I can picture you a few years from now lecturing me on how I need to write something down or else I’ll just forget it. You’re going to be a sassy little lady, I’m just sure of it.

Wait, what am I saying? You’re already a sassy little lady, aren’t you? You have everyone under your pinky with that cute smile and blowing your kisses. You shake your head “no” even when the answer is “yes” just because you can. Even other parents talk about your cuteness and even when you’re not around. Seriously, y0u’ve got the whole world under your spell and you are oh so aware of it.

When I think back to two months ago, I am honestly amazed at how much you’ve changed. You sign “more”, “milk”, “dog”, “book”, “yay”, and you even signed “blue” when we showed you the sign the other day. Do you know what “blue” means? Probably not, but you sure did sign it! You call dogs “daw” and say “ah!” when you’re in agreement. You probably have about five times more signs than words, but that’s perfectly okay with me.

You love spinning in circles and recently figured out how to spin all by yourself. When I start spinning you look at me with a look that says “Oh my god! I forgot I can do that!” and then you spin with determination until you inevitably fall down laughing.

You even kicked a ball today! On purpose! And you throw the ball for the dog. Really only about a foot away, but you certainly expect her to fetch it for you. I have a genius for a child. I am simply sure of it.

You “read” books on your own. The other day you accidentally had a book upside down and you realized it and flipped it right side up. You also point to the bunnies in the books when I ask you to and you’ll go get more books if I ask (or for that matter don’t ask) you to.

You’ve discovered the joy of temper tantrums. You color and mostly don’t try to eat the crayons anymore. You help me dress you. You think that brushing your teeth is fun. You love yogurt and grapes. Really, you’re just a little person now, aren’t you?

Aww… Miss Peanut is growing up so fast.

Love,

Mama
